Adolescent Program (ages 12-15)

Program for Adolescents (Grades 7–9)

They might tell you they're all over the map. And they’d be right — both figuratively and literally. Omni’s Program for Adolescents is designed for curious, capable, and courageous learners in grades 7 through 9, who balance classroom learning with hands-on experience in the real world.

Whether they’re conducting field research at a geological site, harvesting produce from their garden, tending to the chickens on the farm, or setting up for a signature Omni event, Omni’s Middle School students are always in motion — exploring, creating, and engaging deeply with their environment and each other.

Field experiences extend beyond campus: students take part in class trips to the mountains of North Carolina, museums and historical sites, and other destinations that enhance their academic work in areas such as botany, history, and physics.

A Campus Built for Adolescent Growth

Omni’s 13-acre Waxhaw Campus — located just 20 miles south of the Blakeney Campus — is far more than a scenic farm. It’s a thoughtfully prepared environment where adolescents can thrive emotionally, intellectually, and socially.

Set among wooded trails, a pond, gardens, and a barn, the campus supports real-world learning across disciplines. Here, students find a blend of traditional classroom spaces (complete with science and computer labs, an art studio, and library) and the freedom to explore nature, agriculture, and meaningful work in an environment designed to support their unique developmental needs.

Preparing for Adulthood — With Purpose

Adolescence is a powerful and complex stage of development. At Omni, we honor this transformation with a program designed to support identity formation, emotional growth, and intellectual discovery.

Students ages 12–15 are ready for real responsibility, deep thinking, and meaningful work. Our Montessori approach integrates rigorous academic studies in language, math, science, and the humanities with our "occupations" curriculum — a hands-on, real-world framework for practicing adult roles and contributing to the community.

Daily routines provide structure — with lockers, scheduled classes, and homework — while the deeper focus remains on student independence, creative expression, and intellectual maturity. Rather than chasing grades, students are guided toward mastery, self-direction, and purpose. They demonstrate their learning not only through assignments and assessments, but by presenting their work to peers, guides, and the wider community.
