ELEMENTARY GUIDE

Date Position Available: August 2024

We seek an elementary guide to lead one of our elementary classrooms beginning in August 2024.  The preferred candidate will possess an elementary AMI diploma, have worked for at least three years in a Montessori elementary environment and possess a deep love and respect for children.  We seek nurturing, curious and self-motivated guides who are committed to creating classrooms that embody Dr. Montessori’s vision for cosmic education.

Qualifications:

·         AMI Elementary diploma required

·         Minimum of three years of experience in a Montessori elementary classroom preferred

·         Excellent written communication as well as interpersonal and public speaking skills

·         A proven ability to work collaboratively and thoughtfully as part of a collegial team

·         Possession of professional maturity, sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to interact positively with parents

ADOLESCENT PROGRAM MATH AND OCCUPATIONS GUIDE 

Date Position Available: August 2024

We seek an Adolescent Program Mathematics and Occupations Guide for the coming 2024-2025 school year. Candidates should be familiar in general with Dr. Maria Montessori’s pedagogy as it relates to the adolescent from ages 12-15 (grades seven through nine). Specifically, they will need experience with guiding a multi-aged cohort through algebra, geometry and trigonometry lessons equivalent to North Carolina’s standards for Math 1 & Math 2. Experience with constructing relevant math projects that coordinate aspects of current Humanities (history and culture) and Occupations (science) projects is most desirable. Applicants should also have a background in any one of the sciences such as, but not limited to: physics, chemistry, physiology, botany, or zoology. Science skills will be used in the development and presentation of project-based science classes termed Occupations.

The preferred candidate will be accustomed to working collaboratively within a team of educators, will have an undergraduate degree, and will possess either an AMI Adolescent credential or have attended an AMI Orientation to Adolescence.  Most importantly, candidates must have a genuine appreciation for, and understanding of, adolescent students, with all of their gifts, struggles and talents. ELEMENTARY ASSISTANT

We seek a full-time Elementary Teaching Assistant beginning on August 5, 2024. This position requires love, patience and respect for children. The Elementary Teaching Assistant will encourage students aged 6-12 years to be independent and will model for them appropriate manners and behaviors. In addition, the Elementary Teaching Assistant will aid the Lead Guide in promoting a classroom environment designed to facilitate the social, physical and intellectual growth of students by following the tenets of Maria Montessori. Major duties will include maintaining the classroom environment, assisting in data collection and record keeping, providing supervision during non-academic times and participating in overnight trips. SUBSTITUTE GUIDE/ASSISTANT

We seek caring, responsible individuals to substitute as guides and/or assistants in our multi-aged Montessori classrooms.  This is an on call position.  Ideal candidates will possess an understanding of Montessori pedagogy across all planes of development.
