Like all authentic Montessori learning environments, Omni's Land Lab has been carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of its students. Pre-teenagers and teenagers are no longer satisfied with the confines of the Elementary classroom. They are eager to be part of bigger social structures, to be deemed a legitimate part of the community at large, and to identify with a place that is their own.

The Omni Land Lab provides the setting and the means for teens to do exactly that -develop legitimate social structures, interact with the Omni and Waxhaw communities in adult-like ways, and oversee a place far more complex than a classroom. In their varying roles, students experience managing responsibility, negotiating relationships, allocating time, sharing space and duties, and much more. Ultimately, students achieve what Maria Montessori called "valorization" - a sense of value, acceptance, legitimacy and honor.
